Family Violence, Child Abuse, Elder Abuse and Sexual Assault are a reality within our own community and throughout the country. These issues know no economic, social, age, racial or religious boundaries.
The goal of Safe Harbor is to provide shelter and resources to those in crisis situations. No person should live in fear within their home. To achieve our goal, Safe Harbor will provide a non-judgmental, supportive environment, respecting the dignity and well-being of those we assist. Our philosophy does not condone violence of any kind.

History
Safe Harbor (SH) is a non-profit organization located in Aberdeen, South Dakota. SH was originally formed in 1977 as a volunteer service organization with a primary focus of providing an information referral phone service for women. Upon the inception of this referral organization, it became clear, through the phone calls received that the community lacked sufficient agencies that specifically addressed crucial issues facing women. Recognizing the need, SH evolved into the all-encompassing organization it is today, serving women, children, and men. SH is an organization that strives to satisfy the needs of survivors in northern South Dakota twenty four hours a day, every day of the year. In the thirty years Safe Harbor has been in existence, the organization has evolved into the recognized agency specializing in domestic violence, sexual assault and other issues facing families and individuals surviving abuse.
Safe Harbor currently serves a seven county area in north central and northeastern South Dakota including, Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Marshall, McPherson and Potter counties. The population served is relatively diverse.
